Why the hour matters
The hour pillar covers the children palace and timing into luck cycles. Without an hour there is no hour pillar—marriage, children, and luck cycles are not charted here. Date alone still yields three pillars and elements, but plain talk is incomplete.
Clock to double-hour
Zi 23:00–00:59, Chou 01:00–02:59, and so on to Hai 21:00–22:59. From 23:00 to midnight choose Night Zi: day pillar uses the next day; hour is still Zi. Early-morning Zi keeps that day’s day pillar.
If the clock is unclear
Check records or ask family. If you only know a rough window, compare neighbouring hours—do not pick what “looks nicer.” Convert to the birth timezone first; this site’s solar terms use Hong Kong time.
